Leaders by Nature : Canadian Museum Nature Awards

Sonya Richmond Leaders by Nature.

Tonight is the 8th Annual Nature Inspiration Awards Virtual Gala at the Canadian Museum of Nature, and you're invited!  Festivities begin at 5:00 pm EST, and the ceremony will end with a chance to ask the winners and finalists questions about their work.  It was a huge honour to be nominated for this national award, and I was both humbled and thrilled to be named as one of the finalists.  The goals of our #hike4birds across Canada on the 28,000 km long Trans Canada Trail are to promote diversity in the outdoor community, accessibility on our nation's pathways, and to inspire youth to re-connect with nature through birding and Citizen Science.  We've seen first-hand how strongly these goals resonate in classrooms and public forums across Canada during our first 10,000 km and three years on the trail, and to have these goals recognized at the national level is both humbling and encouraging.

It is an affirmation that Nature is for everyone and that everyone can be a Scientist and an Explorer.  One does not need to look a certain way, have a certain cultural background, be a particular gender or have a certain orientation, one need not be a Olympian athlete, be ultra rich, or even have a PhD - all you need is passion and Curiosity!

I was proud to be counted among the diverse, dedicated, and incredibly inspiring group of finalists whose work champions diversity and inclusion, community engagement, and youth leadership.  Their efforts demonstrate passionate engagement, inclusive collaboration, communication, dynamic outreach, and optimism for our nation! Each have shown that the dedication of individuals can transform our communities in positive ways!

Now more than ever we need to foster Scientific literacy, fact based decisions, and encourage the next generation of environmental stewards toward developing innovative regional solutions to some of our most pressing challenges.

I offer my heartfelt congratulations to all the finalists, and I invite everyone to tune in at 5:00 pm to learn more about their bold, innovative, and amazing projects!  Link for registration in bio, or at Canadian Museum of Nature].  Hope to see you there!

See you on the trail!
