World Migratory Bird Day

Today is the day to celebrate the importance of Migratory Birds!  These species remind us of the connection between the diverse number of birds and their habitats throughout the world.  Many birds rely upon special niches and habitats for their survival.  For example both common and rare species in places such as Southwestern Ontario, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick rely not just on regional habitats,  but on the Boreal Forest.

Migratory bird day is the perfect time to recognize the importance of connections....  Connections between people to nature, habitats in our own backyards and those across the country and the world which many species rely upon.  In the coming weeks, months, and years we will be coming to your community on our hike and talking more about these types of connections and the importance of wetlands, prairie grasslands, the Boreal forest, Important Bird Areas, and what you can do to help birds in your own backyard – but today, all we ask is that you get outdoors, enjoy nature and see what birds visit your own backyard and parks!  Happy World Migratory Bird Day!

See you on the trail!
